Christopher McCandless, bright young man of 22 years decides to leave her family and her comfortable life to escape from a materialistic society that the revolt. For two years he explores, under the pseudonym Alexander Supertramp, the wilds of America before reaching its ultimate goal, Alaska.
Into the Wild is an adaptation of Jon Krakauer's novel, inspired by the true story of Christopher. The film traces the events that the protagonist told his travel book without ever trying to interpret them. Her sister is the narrator of this expedition and tried to understand how this leak was inevitable.
Using flashbacks and flash-forwards, Sean Penn modest vignette of a family that did well despite the lies of the past and parental conflict. The image is yellow when the past is evoked highlights the weariness and rejection of a life of Christopher violent and monotonous. Dramatic tension arises from this arrangement that selects and compares the different stages of his initiation.
The viewer accompanies Alexander, grew up with him, went from rebellious adolescence, impulsive and full of ideals to explore the world of maturity and wisdom. Through several quotations from his diary we feel the deep humanity that drives the young man and his need for exchange. For him, "Happiness is only real when shared." The simplicity and generosity of people they encounter soothe his anger and reconcile with the man while leaving intact its desire to be alone "into the wild."
Nature is at the heart of this epic of modern times. It is both mirror and metaphor for the spiritual quest of our hero alone. It seems to draw its strength from its landscapes which become alternately lush, arid, desert and polar. They push Alexander to defy the ban and giving him freedom and inner peace. The remarkable work of cinematographer, Eric Gautier, emphasizes the duality of nature that appears primarily as protective and generous and ruthless and elusive. They are filmed in panoramic, long lens or close-ups, the smallest elements are captured with grace and translate the essence of this exhilarating environment.
Into the Wild is a hymn to liberty is for all of us. Very quickly they identify with Alexander Supertramp and his inability to find his place in an individualistic society. Sean Penn skillfully to image this quest for identity that becomes a spiritual journey where sharing and the return to nature appear as elements simple and necessary for happiness. The soundtrack, composed and performed by Eddie Vedder adds a fluidity to the events that we are told in this contemporary odyssey. On leaving this movie, a sudden urge to live life to the fullest and go see the country we invaded. It is recovering, but the idea is still there. So, we imagine new horizons hoping to see you soon ...
